adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Higgins has found a home! His story: Higgins was found near a trash container. The finder, the mother of friends of a helper, originally wanted to keep him for a few days until he received his first vaccination. But Higgins had already won her heart and so she couldn't bring herself to leave him at the shelter. Therefore, she decided that Higgins can stay with her until his adoption. Higgins is approximately 4 months old and will likely reach a medium size. Currently, he is about 42 cm tall and weighs 12 kg. With his beautiful sandy fur, dark snout, and sweet ears, Higgins is a real eye-catcher. The little guy is friendly and curious. He loves cuddles and being close to people and other dogs. A compatibility with cats has not yet been tested, but he ignores the cats in the neighborhood. Higgins is active and intelligent. Therefore, we are looking for active people who enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors and stimulating Higgins mentally. A visit to a positively working dog training class, as well as activities like agility and mantrailing, could be a great way to grow into a wonderful team. Since Higgins is currently living in a foster home, he has already had a lot to learn. So he is already mostly house-trained and also runs well on a leash. However, there is still a lot for Higgins to learn, and we have no doubt that the smart guy will learn quickly and with great enthusiasm and develop into a great companion. Soon Higgins will be facing an exciting time. His puberty. The world turns upside down and everything learned seems to be forgotten. It is important to guide him through this time with loving consistency and clear rules and structures. Higgins is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has an EU pet passport and will be available after a positive review. Even a foster home would be greatly appreciated. If you think you are exactly the person who can discover the world with Higgins, then contact us. A big thank you goes especially to BR. Thank you for giving Higgins a sweet name and thus an identity. A big thank you also goes to Torsten W., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Higgins. As of: 27.01. This is a puppy.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Higgins

What life with Higgins looks like

Higgins is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Higgins, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Higgins?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Higgins on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Higgins if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Higgins already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Higgins isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Higgins and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
