Adopt Hilda

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Hilda is a spayed mixed-breed dog born in November 2024, who was found along with her sisters Hailey, Hava and Haviva in a box in front of the Svilos animal shelter as a puppy. She is now ready for adoption and is looking for loving people who will never abandon her again. Hilda is a dog that is very affectionate and attached to people, enjoying the closeness to her caregivers. She loves cuddling and spending time with her humans. At the same time, Hilda is very active and energetic. On the yard she often shows her energy by running and jumping around. She has great enjoyment in movement, play and mental stimulation, and therefore she is looking for a home where she can be physically and mentally engaged. Hilda gets along very well with other dogs. She loves her canine companions and plays especially well with them. Treats are also one of her great passions, so she can be easily motivated through positive reinforcement. We do not know her behavior towards cats and other animals. For Hilda we are looking for people who have enough time for long walks, varied activities, loving engagement and of course lots of cuddles. Anyone who wants a cheerful, active and affectionate dog by their side will find a wonderful companion in Hilda. The height of the dog at the shoulder is 50 cm and she weighs approximately 20 kg.

About Hilda

What life with Hilda looks like

Hilda is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
