Hilde

European Shorthair · Unknown · Kitten · 4 months

The three kittens Hannah, Hilde and Jens were born at the end of January and had a difficult start in life. They come from poor breeding conditions and have had few positive experiences with people so far. Despite the unsanitary circumstances they came from, all three are clean and reliably use their cat litter. They are healthy - what they lack is time, patience and loving people who can show them that the world can also be safe. As they have had little contact with strangers, the three are still very shy. New situations make them anxious, and it is likely that they will hide under the bed for weeks in their new home and only come out at night to eat. Particularly Hilde currently shows clearly how insecure she is: when someone approaches her, she hisses and spits. This is not a bad character, but pure fear. However, with patience, calmness and understanding, this behavior can change over time. Therefore, we are looking for quiet, patient people who do not want to force anything and allow the cats their own pace. An ideal home would be one with an already friendly first cat, which they can orient themselves towards. Whoever gives these three little souls a chance may not immediately get cuddly cats, but they will have the opportunity to see how trust slowly grows from fear. If you are not discouraged and would like to give the three kittens the time they need, we would be very happy to hear from you.

DE·Show original

About Hilde

What life with Hilde looks like

Hilde is a kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hilde, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hilde?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hilde on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hilde if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hilde already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hilde isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hilde and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
