adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Hilly has found her home! Her story: Hilly is now 4 years old and had probably never had a proper home before. She lived in the basement of the hospital in Zalau with a few other cats until recently. No one knows how long she lived there or who took care of her. Probably everyone and no one at the same time: she was fed multiple times on some days and not at all on others. All were spayed or neutered, but none were vaccinated or otherwise medically attended to. When the hospital leadership changed recently, the cats in the basement had to disappear. Fortunately, the staff helped transport the cats and even paid for the vaccinations. When Hilly was found, she was in perfect health. She did have a flea infestation, which was quickly treated. Since then, she has had no health issues and is therefore ready for your journey to her Forever Home. Although the female cat has lived in the foster home for a longer time, she avoids contact with people to a great extent and is very shy and reserved. She only allows herself to be petted occasionally when she is eating. She can at least currently be described as an "Anxiety Cat." She is generally not very active. We hope for a loving family with a beautiful home where Hilly can flourish in the future. In contrast, Hilly enjoys the company of her fellow animals very much. Therefore, we do not place her in single housing. If there is no other cat waiting for her in her new home, she will certainly take one of her friends from the foster home with her. The young female cat is accustomed to apartment living, so we do not want to place her as an outdoor cat. However, she would certainly be happy with a covered balcony from which she can observe her new surroundings. An enclosed (netted) balcony is required for cat safety.

About Hilly

What life with Hilly looks like

Hilly is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hilly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hilly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hilly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hilly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hilly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hilly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hilly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
