Himalaya

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Himalaya is a sensitive little cat for whom a calm and gentle pace is essential. This sensitivity probably comes from her story, which is very difficult... She has suffered in the past. Indeed, her owner moved away and left her behind, along with her sister Neige, who was also abandoned... They ended up on their own, outside, by a busy and dangerous road. The neighbors took turns feeding them but gradually disengaged until they too abandoned them. After a call for help, a volunteer temporarily sheltered them in a place that was not suitable for long-term care. It wasn't a problem because people were supposed to take them in... But again, those people disengaged. However, we did not abandon them... Our association did its best to push the walls and used its funds to take them in, finally ensuring them a dignified future! It was high time for them to leave their recovery cage and receive the veterinary care they needed, and of course to be in order, because our goal is to find them super families ♥ Today, Himalaya is in foster care. And it was time... These years of abandonment and neglect have left their mark. Himalaya's health was closely monitored in the first few months after her rescue. Himalaya was suffering... We did all the necessary health exams (ultrasound, puncture, blood tests, and urine analysis) which unfortunately revealed the presence of a large cyst that constantly reformed despite two punctures to remove the fluid. The cyst was present on a kidney that turned out to be extremely damaged (no recognizable kidney structure on the ultrasound). There was no choice, she had to be operated on! She was relieved by a nephrectomy performed on September 23rd, an operation that consisted of removing this very damaged kidney (and its nasty cyst…). Himalaya will be able to live many more beautiful years with just one kidney, like humans when this happens! Of course, vigilance will be needed to check her remaining kidney annually through a urine test, and the annual vaccine reminder will be an opportunity to do two things at once. Himalaya's health will also require attention regarding her ears. Indeed, as is often the case with cats that lacked care and attention when left to themselves outside (especially with mostly white fur), they bear the marks of years spent outside on the skin of their ears. Due to repeated sunburns, the edges of her ears have been damaged. The veterinarians noticed lesions that can be considered "pre-cancerous" on the edges of the ears. As of now, there is no treatment needed, but there will need to be monitoring and vigilance to check if cancer develops; if so, surgical intervention will be required. It is possible (but not certain) that this may require surgery in the coming years depending on the evolution of the lesions. Himalaya has endured all this psychological and physical suffering... Today, she is relieved and can live normally. She is a small ball of sweetness who doesn't like agitation and noise, but she doesn't need to be alone either. Indeed, she cohabited with several cats in her first foster family and currently lives with Mya, who is also in foster care, and it's not a problem for her, as long as each one leads their life calmly. She enjoys petting once a relationship of trust has been established. You will need to show kindness and a lot of patience in order to build this trust and for her to open up to you. She is a little food lover, and her love of food will be a good lever to break the ice! You are sure to gain points by offering delicious and appetizing pâtés. You will need to stroke her stomach, but be careful to provide her with quality food, which will be essential for her health, especially since she only has one kidney. Himalaya lives in an apartment, accompanied by Mya (also in foster care) and two humans. She lets them know she's around in the morning and evening, otherwise she stays hidden, in one of her multiple hiding spots. When her foster family spends time with her (in the evening), she doesn't hesitate to come rub against them to ask for attention and affection. We think she needs to feel reassured in a small, calm, cozy environment without sudden movements. We will prefer a home without young children and without access to the outside, as she quickly hides when she doesn't feel reassured. This little cat gets along well with other cats if they are calm, let her express herself and find her place at her own pace. She could also thrive being the only cat in the house. The delicate and sensitive princess of her quiet and cozy little kingdom. Giving her the time she needs to come towards you, along with your patience and kindness, will be the keys to sharing a beautiful story with her...

About Himalaya

What life with Himalaya looks like

Himalaya is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at ADPK - Association Des P in adpk association des p tits korrigans.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Himalaya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Himalaya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ADPK - Association Des P handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Himalaya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Himalaya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ADPK - Association Des P will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Himalaya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Himalaya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ADPK - Association Des P early rather than rehoming privately; they know Himalaya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
