Adopt Hiro

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

When Hiro was brought to the animal shelter, we wondered why someone had abandoned such a great dog. He is a young, full of positive energy dog of the amstaff breed. Hirek loves people and willingly cooperates with the handler. He walks nicely on a leash, when emotions calm down he doesn't pull and walks calmly, sniffs a lot but is also sensitive to every call from the handler. His relations with other dogs are good - he doesn't react to passing dogs and walks calmly ahead, and during group walks can walk along happily by his side, but unfortunately he is quite persistent and lacks manners. So why is this ideal dog still in the shelter and there's no line of people willing to adopt him? Well, because as we found out over time, Hiro can't cope with an excess of emotions. No one taught him how to calm down in stressful situations or how to take care of himself. So when too much happens, Hirek left to himself comes up with silly ideas - he can jump on us, bark demanding something from us, grab the leash or hand with his teeth. However, with an attentive handler who pays attention to the dog, it is very easy to get rid of such ideas from his head. Hiro is a very readable dog, you can see when there are too many emotions. You can see when he is planning something and it is very easy to guide him onto the right path. For Hiro we are looking for an experienced home, which won't be scared by a dog trying to establish its boundaries and demand. People who will set clear boundaries for him, spend time with him and teach him how to healthy release excess emotions. Hiro would best fit into a home without other animals. Due to his unrefined character, we do not recommend him for a home with children.

To młody, pełen pozytywnej energii psiak w typie amstaffa. Hirek uwielbia ludzi i chętnie współpracuje z przewodnikiem.

About Hiro

What life with Hiro looks like

Hiro is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs help managing emotional overload and stress responses. Requires consistent boundaries and patient training to prevent jumping, barking, and mouthing behaviors.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hiro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hiro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hiro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hiro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hiro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hiro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hiro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
