Hitchcock

Greyhound · Male · Young · 3 years

Personality:Hitchcock is a very sweet ex-racing greyhound. He’s a gentle soul who is taking everything at his own pace and slowly starting to come out of his shell. He enjoys his walks and will plod along beside you – though being an ex-racer he does have the occasional prey drive for all things small and fluffy! Hitchock has started to build some lovely bonds with staff and volunteers but now we can’t wait for him to find his forever sofa to curl up on! Behaviour:Like most ex-racing greyhounds Hitchcock can find wildlife and cats quite interesting and may pull towards them at times though he is doing very well learning to move on. He can be a little nervous at first with new people but he has shown us that after a few meets he will form strong bonds with his favourite people. Housing:Hitchcock would be suited to most home set-ups however potential adopters should be aware that he has never lived in a home before and so will likely need toilet training. Whilst we believe Hitchcock could learn to be left for a period of time potential adopters should be prepared to build this up slowly. Adopters should be prepared to help support Hitchock as he settles into homelife but we also offer post adoption support for up to 3 months to assist his new family in helping him find his feet! Children/pets:Due to his limited experience of the world Hitchcock will need an adult only home with no small animals or cats however he could live with a dog of similar size pending successful meets here at the centre. Adopters should be prepared to separate the dogs and introduce them slowly as they settle. Vet history:Hitchcock is up to date with flea, worming and vaccinations. He has also been castrated prior to his arrival at the Ark and currently has no ongoing medical conditions. Adoption fee:The adoption fee is £220. If you would like to make an additional donation over and above the adoption fee, this would be hugely appreciated.

About Hitchcock

What life with Hitchcock looks like

Hitchcock is a small young adult greyhound dog waiting at RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark in United Kingdom.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hitchcock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hitchcock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hitchcock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hitchcock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hitchcock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hitchcock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hitchcock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
