Hiver

Male Β· Adult Β· 4 years

Hiver (now Buddy) has learned a lot during his time in the foster family, he has become a real cuddly bear now that he knows us better. He still can't handle the hustle and bustle. He is looking for a quiet home without young children. He loves walking in the woods, even without being on a leash, he stays with his family. He doesn't like walking in the garage because of the crowds and noise. The garage where he slept has been replaced by the bedroom. Update June 2024: Foster mom reports: Upon arrival, Hiver was very anxious and afraid of everything. He still growls when someone passes, but to a lesser extent. Walking on the street is very difficult because new situations, stress, and fear bring them with them. Medically, Hiver needs to be closely monitored. He suffers from arthritis, which causes him to have trouble with his paws. He also can't walk for a long time. He prefers to be placed with people who already have some experience. Hiver loves the peace and quiet, so young children won't work. Hiver can be placed with cats and other dogs. He is house trained and when he needs to go outside, he stands at the door. He sleeps well at night in the garage. Once he has your trust, he can be very sweet and comes to ask for hugs. Who wants to give Hiver a chance at the life he deserves? Winter, Majira, Hiver, and Zima are the little ones of Bou Bou and Babette, when they were just a day with us we got the surprise of the day. Mom got 6 little ones, two didn't make it. These 4 cross retriever mastin will grow into big giants and need owners who know and can handle them. They are incredibly sweet and beautiful to look at, but they will become strong puppies and then big personalities. They know their parents. Both are very good and good dogs with both a very soft character. The puppies are now being raised very socially and receive the best care, which is why we are looking for people who know what they are getting into because a small puppy needs upbringing, patience, and common sense to let them participate in this world. A garden is a must! Walking and being active are also a must!

Tuin is zeker een must !

About Hiver

What life with Hiver looks like

Hiver is an extra-large adult dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈAdopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hiver, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hiver?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hiver on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hiver if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hiver already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hiver isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hiver and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
