adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Holly has finally made it and found a home in the Netherlands! Her story: Zalau, Romania. Holly was found on the roadside directly in front of a parking lot in Cluj. No one knows how long she had been lying there – but if she had not been found and brought directly to an animal clinic, she would likely have died at that point, as she could no longer move at all. The female dog was severely dehydrated and had several major health issues. What made the situation even worse is that she was also pregnant, and the babies in her had died. It was discovered later on-site that her owner had already attempted to get rid of her at the public shelter… Fortunately, this was prevented through the intervention of the Romanian animal police. Holly has recovered and now lives in a paid accommodation in an outdoor pen. Unfortunately, no other space was available for her. Therefore, we hope very much that she will soon win her ticket to happiness and receive a cozy spot. Holly is an approximately 3-year-old female dog, with a medium size of about 52 cm and 27 kg. She is active, playful, and full of energy. Holly shows herself to be very clever and has quickly learned some basic commands. As she loves treats, the training is also not too difficult. Holly likes to be around people, but she can also get a bit excited if it gets too much for her and she pulls away. She already goes well on the leash, but with her active nature, it can sometimes still be challenging, and more training will certainly be necessary. With her fellow animals, Holly gets along well. Probably, Holly is a mix of Dogo Argentino and an American Staffordshire Terrier. Therefore, she is not allowed to enter Germany because she falls into the category 1 on the so-called Rasseliste. So, we are looking for a Forever Home for Holly and her mother in Austria, Switzerland (not allowed in all cantons), Liechtenstein, or wherever she is welcome and can lead an appropriate life. Our Holly is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She brings her EU Companion Animal Passport and can enter after a positive assessment. Who will give Holly a happy dog life? She has more than earned it! Many thanks to Natalie P.! You have given Holly a name and thus an identity!

About Holly

What life with Holly looks like

Holly is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Holly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Holly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Holly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Holly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Holly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Holly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Holly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
