Homer

Mixed Breed · Male

Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: Aug. 2017 In the animal shelter since: Sept. 2022 Gets along with dogs: yes Children in the same household: older children possible Wanted at home: apartment possible, at least on the outskirts (not in the city) The lively, 2017-born mixed-breed male dog Homer is friendly to people during a get-to-know phase. Only then will he allow himself to be approached – this must also be respected by visitors or even better: Homer has a private retreat area that belongs to him alone. The scruffy guy is compatible with fellow animals, has lived in an apartment, and can be rehomed to the outskirts. Homer is house-trained and walks calmly on a leash and loves long walks. The dogman can be communicative and sometimes also demanding. His voracious appetite makes him a eager learner; he also likes to snuggle with familiar people. In an apartment, it should be considered that Homer is a good watchdog and therefore also likes to bark!

Geschlecht: männlich, kastriert Geburtsdatum: Aug. 2017 Im Tierheim seit: Sept.

About Homer

What life with Homer looks like

Homer is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Wiener Tierschutzverein in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Homer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Homer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wiener Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Homer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Homer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wiener Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Homer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Homer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wiener Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Homer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
