Adopt Pumukel

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 13 years

Hello animal lovers! My name is Pumukel. I am a neutered mixed-breed male dog of about 13 years old. I have been living in a foster home for quite some time now, as it has been difficult for me to find a new home so far. Unfortunately, I don't like being alone. Additionally, a fence is no obstacle for me if I want to follow my human. Despite my age, I am still doing very well; I still enjoy going for walks and get along with other dogs and cats. At our place, we have many animals—whether dogs or cats—that often struggle to find a new home due to behavioral issues or health problems, and end up staying with us until the end of their lives. Since all our animals live with the family in the house, they never lack affection and security. We have a very large meadow where the dogs can play freely as they please, and in the fall of 2021, we set up a training area for our wards, where they can be mentally and physically engaged according to their nature. However, veterinary costs for our sanctuary animals—especially our seniors—do come up regularly. That's why we are always grateful when animal lovers support us with donations to cover these often very high veterinary bills. We only want the best for our wards—problematic fur babies also deserve the best care possible. After all, they are not to blame for the difficulties they face in life due to a lack of proper upbringing or bad experiences with people. Some symptoms here are age-related.

Hallo Tierfreunde!

About Pumukel

What life with Pumukel looks like

Pumukel is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten in Tierschutz Kaernten.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pumukel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pumukel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pumukel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pumukel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pumukel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pumukel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pumukel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
