Hope

Mixed Breed · Male

Hope came to us as a small wild-born girl, meaning she had grown up without human contact for the first months of her life. This has left its mark on her until today: even at three years old, she still doesn't consider two-legged creatures particularly trustworthy, although we do our best to convince her otherwise. As far as her fellow felines are concerned, however, the now somewhat plump black and white cat is much less critical. On the contrary, she flares up quite quickly, especially for tomcats who actually don't want anything to do with her. (Yes, that happens with cats too!) This doesn't bother the beautiful Hope one bit. She simply waits until her beloved one goes to the food bowl and then clings to him from behind with full devotion. If her dream partner tries to avoid her, she follows him - in this regard, she can be quite a little sticky. However, Hope is not aggressive on this or any other occasion. She simply lacks self-confidence. Therefore, if cats or tomcats who reject her with threats or blows chase her away, she will also be driven into flight. If such a scumbag (temporarily) lives in her room, she will retreat for weeks - usually together with her fate companion, the equally shy Honey. Even though Hope will probably not give up her skepticism towards humans quickly or easily, we think that with a very social cat companion by her side, she can learn to appreciate human affection as well. The important thing in this probably somewhat lengthy process is that the person keeps his or her back and lets their trusting cat be the "door opener" - no matter how long it takes. Anyone who intimidates fearful or suspicious cats - and from a cat's point of view, this already starts with intense eye contact! - confirms their reservations and only drives them into flight. That is why Hope needs not only an extremely friendly companion or companion in her future home, but also very patient and generous people who give her the time she needs to approach her on her own. Experience with reserved cats is undoubtedly an advantage. Since Hope proves by her affection for fellow felines that she is a really big cuddly cat, we are sure that the investment of time and restraint will also pay off for humans once Hope has understood how great it is to be stroked into sleep by gentle hands. After a longer acclimatization phase, Hope needs safe outdoor access. Further information: 0170 - 90 22 472 or 0157 - 52 68 76 61.

DE·Show original

About Hope

What life with Hope looks like

Hope is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. in Neuwied.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hope, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hope?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hope on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hope if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hope already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hope isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hope and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
