Adopt Hosé

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 12 years

Name: Hosé. Breed: German Shepherd mixed breed. Color: black brown beigeHeight: 63 cmAge: 01.02.2014. Status: vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, MMK-Test, EU-PassLocation: GelsenkirchenSince January 2026, our dear senior Hosé has been living in his foster home in Gelsenkirchen, where he found a new home alongside a female dog. By now, he has settled in wonderfully and is managing his new life with excellence. He regularly attends dog training classes with his foster parents and participates enthusiastically in the training. He is very motivated and loves being mentally and physically challenged. At home, he shows his best side: he is house-trained, does not destroy anything, and behaves calmly even when his foster parents are out of the house. When feeding, it should be noted that he should be fed separately from other dogs as he shows food envy. Character-wise, Hosé is a relaxed and calm dog but requires sufficient mental stimulation to avoid restlessness. When there's activity around him, he listens curiously at the door to see who is going up or down the stairs.Aloneness no longer poses any problems for him; however, it is important that doors are locked because he has learned from his roommate Tilly how to open them. Moreover, the kitchen is off-limits for Hosé since he tends to rummage through the trash bin when unsupervised. On walks, Hosé stays relaxed when accompanied by other dogs and walks well on a leash. However, in forests, his hunting instinct comes out, so extra caution is advised. A double safety measure is recommended in such situations. For his future home: Small animals should not be roommates there, as this has not yet been tested. As there are no cats in the foster home, compatibility with cats could not be assessed. Having a confident female dog as company would certainly be a nice addition for Hosé, though it is not essential.Sofia BecicGreek Pet Heads e.V.Email:

Sofia Becicgriechische Fellnasen e.V.Email:

About Hosé

What life with Hosé looks like

Hosé is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hosé, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hosé?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hosé on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hosé if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hosé already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hosé isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hosé and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
