Hr. Bævermose – en stille aftale i mosen

Mixed Breed · Male

"Some stories don't start with a big bang, but with a little glance at the edge of the field of view. That's how the meeting with the cat Mr. Bævermose began, which I first saw in the summer of 2025. Suddenly, male appeared on the fields around the farm and often lay in our wild marsh area - as if male had always belonged there. I checked nearby farms and the local area, but no one missed a black cat. When the cold came, I noticed a pair of yellow eyes following me when the horses were fed at night. I put some tuna in the stable and set up a camera - mainly to be sure that it was actually a cat and not a giant rat that took the food. It was Mr. Bævermose. But it turned out there was another cat - exactly the same. Male was named Cat-Karsten. To do the right thing, I contacted Cat Protection. We would like the two to stay in the area, but we were also worried whether they were two female cats - and that we could suddenly have a whole flock of small "Bævermosers" and "Cat-Karstens". Cat Inspector Natascha came out, set traps, and we agreed to have them spayed and released so they could continue to live where they already felt at home. Both were caught the same day. Natascha first thought that Mr. Bævermose was a "Mrs. Bævermose", because he looked pregnant. The next day, female called: None of the animals were microchipped. Mr. Bævermose was a boy - and his round shape was unfortunately due to many worms. Cat-Karsten had a serious heart condition and was euthanized. It was sad, but also a reminder of how important it is to act in time. Fortunately, Mr. Bævermose was otherwise in good shape - thin after treatment, but healthy. We got a really nice offer from Cat Protection: sterilization, vaccination, worm and flea treatment, chip and ear marking for 750 DKK. And then we signed that we are Mr. Bævermose's people - with all the responsibility that entails. Mr. Bævermose is still his own man. Male keeps "corona distance," but male talks a lot - just from a distance. Male has slept outside, maybe in an abandoned fox hole, even though it has been very cold. We tried with iglo and blankets, but it was too unsafe for him. Last weekend we tried again - this time with something that better suited his style: a heavenly bed. And that worked. Now male comes when the horses are fed at night. Male walks around, still from a distance, until I bring the food - then male hurries into the shed and makes his voice ready. Mr. Bævermose has a lot on his mind. We have decided not to make him any more tame than male himself wants. For one thing, male has chosen a family with two large dogs that lick their mouths every time they see him. And for another, we live in the middle of nature, where both foxes, moles and large hawks also pass by. Natural caution is important. So we made a simple, peaceful agreement: Mr. Bævermose gets meat in his kiks in the evening - and male keeps mice and rats away from the stable. We both keep our word. And Mr. Bævermose? Male is completely indifferent that I am actually afraid of cats. Because male has chosen us as his family. That's what we - just like male - are really happy about."

Natascha troede først, at Hr.
