Nėra žmonių, kurie mėgsta visus žmones ir tik kai kurie tai parodo. Jei Hugo būtų žmogus, tai jis būtų iš tų „kai kurių”. Šis šunelis puikiai parodo, kai jam nepatinka koks žmogus, o jų būna daug. Laimei, kad Hugo kiekvienam suteikia šansą tapti jo draugu, tad viskas yra įmanoma. Draugystei su Hugo tereikia kantrybės, skaniukų ir šiek tiek laiko. Koks jis ir jo gyvenimas buvo iki apsigyvenant pas mus – nežinome. Jis buvo rastas besiblaškantis ant kelio ir pats įlipo žmonėms į automobilį.
