Hund Buddy

Mixed Breed · Male

Buddy desperately needs people with experience in herding dog shelters. The three-and-a-half-year-old male dog was acquired impulsively and unfortunately found himself in the animal shelter over a year ago. Buddy made it difficult for the animal caretakers to approach him at first because he only knew life with his primary caregiver and the stay in the garden, with walks and proximity to other dogs and people being unfamiliar to him. With much patience and gentle approach, Buddy has become accustomed to walking without viewing every encounter with other dogs as a threat, and he even has dog buddies with whom he can go for walks or play on our dog field. There, he also loves chasing a ball or a frisbee, all the things he couldn't experience as a young dog. However, it is important to always include calm exercises, such as searching for treats or basic obedience training. Buddy still has a fear of strangers, which is why we have helped him get used to wearing a muzzle, so that interactions with people do not have to be negative. With his trusted people at the animal shelter, Buddy is a loving dog who seeks contact and cuddles, enjoys going for walks, and wants to enjoy his dog life. However, it is also important to realize that herding dogs are very independent and often make their own decisions about following the owner's instructions. The more Buddy is integrated into the family, the more he can build an intense bond. Buddy wishes for a securely fenced property in a quiet area, but he should not be left there alone, as he would then bark a lot and react to all sounds and stimuli, making him a good guardian. Anyone who wants to meet Buddy should take the time to visit the animal shelter often to start walking with him and one of his primary caregivers…… this wonderful and beautiful dog should not have to spend the rest of his life in the animal shelter.

DE·Show original

About Hund Buddy

What life with Hund Buddy looks like

Hund Buddy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Hof in Hof.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
