Arturo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

mixed breed Arturo – not a perfect dog… but a very special Arturo spent his entire puppyhood and, thus, the crucial imprinting phase together with his siblings in a Spanish animal shelter. Instead of discovering the world, getting to know security, and building trust, he grew up behind bars. Not the right place for puppies who want to learn and discover the world. By now, Arturo has grown into a sturdy young dog who is gradually beginning to open up to people. He now allows closer proximity to humans and also shows great potential on walks – he already walks nicely on a leash. Of course, Arturo carries his “animal welfare backpack.” He is not a perfectly socialized dog who can simply function everywhere without problems. He is not familiar with many things and naturally still finds some things unsettling. But the most important thing is: Arturo no longer finds people as bad as he might have thought at one point. On the contrary – it is becoming increasingly clear that there is also interest and curiosity. Perhaps a part of Arturo is of the Spanish Mastiff. These impressive dogs are known for being calm, loyal, and sensitive. At the same time, they need people with patience, understanding, and a loving, clear leadership. Once a Mastiff has developed trust, a very special bond often forms. For Arturo, we are therefore not looking for people who expect a “ready-made” dog, but people with patience, calmness, and ideally dog experience. People who accept him as he is, do not pressure him, and are ready to accompany him lovingly on his journey. Because behind his cautious nature lies a young dog who finally wants to arrive. A dog who can learn that life can be more than a cage in an animal shelter. A dog who simply needs people, who take him by the paw. If you want to accompany the sweet Arturo on his journey, please contact his responsible matchmaker. He would also be very grateful for a foster home.

DE·Show original

About Arturo

What life with Arturo looks like

Arturo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arturo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arturo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arturo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arturo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arturo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arturo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arturo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
