HUNTER

German Shorthaired Pointer · Male · Young · 2 years

Hunter - A Real Hunter Hunter is a German Shorthair who is looking for people who understand what a real hunting dog brings. We are looking for experienced people, preferably with a hunting background and a good understanding of German Shorthair. Hunter was seen at a feeding station a few months ago - undernourished and in poor condition. He disappeared shortly after and was untraceable for months. He was later seen again at the same spot. Hunter tells a story that we experience again and again in animal welfare: hunting dogs are not automatically abandoned softies. Hunting dogs bring their original instincts and experiences. Hunter is a proud, large and confident German Shorthair and an impressive appearance. He is people-oriented, but at the same time a dog with character and clear boundaries. His hunting instinct is clearly pronounced - Hunter is very ambitious in hunting and was probably already in use. The German Shorthair is a high-performance, enduring and hardworking hunting dog. It was bred for versatile hunting work and brings corresponding energy, endurance, a pronounced hunting instinct and the desire to fulfill tasks. Such a dog needs people who understand his instincts and can provide him with suitable exercise. Hunter also shows dominance when dealing with other dogs. Due to his size and confident appearance, he needs people who can lead him safely and know how to handle a strong hunting dog. Hunter does not take jokes about food and his territory and does not give up easily. Therefore, it is clear: Hunter is not a dog for beginners. We are looking for people who do not want to train out or downplay his characteristics, but are willing to work with him and lead Hunter according to his instincts. HUNTER'S DETAILS Name: Hunter Birthdate: October 24, 2023 (estimated) Size: approx. 70 cm Breed: German Shorthair Feature: Tail docked Character: dominant, self-confident, active, people-oriented Hunting instinct: clearly pronounced Species: dominant towards other dogs HUNTER'S TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ✔ Serbian pet passport ✔ Microchip and complete vaccinations ✔ Deworming and parasite treatment ✔ Negative 4D test Hunter is fully prepared to travel and can move to his new home soon. After a positive preliminary inspection and the conclusion of a protection contract with a deposit, Hunter travels legally and transparently via TRACES NT to the EU. The handover takes place exclusively at our association address in 01809 Müglitztal and in accordance with the legal and animal welfare regulations. Hunter is not looking for people who are looking for a straightforward dog. Hunter is looking for people who understand and can lead a real German Shorthair. Email:

HUNTER – A REAL HUNTER Hunter sucht Menschen, die wissen, was ein echter Jagdhund mitbringt. Mail an:

About HUNTER

What life with HUNTER looks like

HUNTER is a large young adult german shorthaired pointer dog waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting HUNTER, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about HUNTER?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw HUNTER on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt HUNTER if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is HUNTER already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if HUNTER isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know HUNTER and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
