Ida

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 7 months

Two affectionate cuddle tigers are looking for their family. These velvet paws are currently in the care of DKSV and can be rehomed for a donation and with a protection contract. The cats have been examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. Ida and Basti are 7-month-old siblings who are only looking for a home together—preferably an apartment with a secure balcony. Ida loves being cuddled; she happily follows her humans around and adores being spoken to. Basti isn't quite as keen on being picked up, but he thoroughly enjoys any playtime with his balls and feathers. He also loves his little pool, where he plays with cat water toys. Both cats are very active and love spending time in the secured garden. They often play together or lie closely snuggled together on their cushion or with their humans. Basti insists on being included in everything and has even started opening doors himself so he and Ida can explore new places together. We’re looking for kind, time-loving people who can meet these two lovable, cheerful cats’ energetic needs. Children, other cats, or dogs are no problem—they’re actually welcome! About Ida

What life with Ida looks like

Ida is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Dortmunder Katzenschutz e.V. in Dortmund.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ida, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ida?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dortmunder Katzenschutz e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ida on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ida if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dortmunder Katzenschutz e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ida already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ida isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dortmunder Katzenschutz e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ida and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
