Igor

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

When Igor was bundled into the car by their rescuer on January 23, 2024, from the side of the country road, the animal-loving lady couldn’t have been sure whether she was carrying a badger, a dog, or a cat. Igor was just a tangled, very dirty, and sad bundle of fur. After the vet’s initial check, it was determined that the foundling was a 2-year-old (as of January 2024) Yorkshire Terrier. The next trip was straight to the dog groomer, who, amidst all the matted and thorn- and small-branch-infested hair, actually found a picture-perfect toy Yorkshire. Igor wears ribbons with great pride—he knows he’s now a looker and throws himself into poses enthusiastically when his foster mom pulls out the camera. Unfortunately, the little man can’t stay with his rescuer and will soon have to relocate to ArcoNatura, but maybe he’ll have found his permanent home by then. Igor is a very affectionate character who, in a way not typical for a terrier, would like to make friends with the whole world. He is calm and balanced, clingy, and enjoys every bit of affection. Igor thinks walking with his best friend is great, and he will surely miss it when he lives in the animal shelter. But fortunately, our little gold piece is also very friendly with other dogs and will surely find playmates and maybe even cuddle buddies among the other ground-near shelter residents. Igor is a young and cheerful dog who wants a family that helps him explore the world. Igor gets along well with children, provided they understand that a small dog should be handled with care and that a common football is not an appropriate toy for a dog not even 30cm tall. Our Igor is looking forward to meeting his own family soon, and he would find a collection of hair clips completely appropriate. He is a big fan of cozy blankets, pillows, and dog beds. If you are already smitten and want to know how our little heartbreaker will soon enrich your life, don’t hesitate to contact our matchmakers. Even if Igor is not your match made in heaven, we will also be happy to help you find an appropriate four-legged companion for your family.

DE·Show original

About Igor

What life with Igor looks like

Igor is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Igor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Igor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Igor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Igor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Igor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Igor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Igor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
