Adopt Il gelato al cane? Meglio di no

Mixed Breed · Unknown

But alternatives are not lacking. In summer, and not only to tell the truth, one of the most appreciated foods is undoubtedly ice cream: who doesn't like to treat themselves to a fresh and delicious relief from the heat of the hottest months, perhaps enjoying the shade of a tree or an umbrella? If we are taking a walk along the waterfront or a trip around the city center, coming across an ice cream parlor is always a sweet temptation. But if our dog is with us, how should we behave? Can we share with him the comforting joy of one or two scoops of his favorite flavor without taking risks? In other articles, we have dealt with the foods that dogs can or cannot eat, but today, inspired by the heat of July, we want to focus precisely on ice cream. In short, can dogs eat it? The answer is quick: better not. It is important to remember that sugars are not suitable for dogs because they accumulate in their organism, risking to cause several diseases such as diabetes, obesity, damage to the digestive, cardiovascular and nervous systems, dental and gum problems. Therefore, ice creams, especially the packaged ones, contain sugars potentially harmful to dogs. Not for this reason, however, should one give up offering them a small delicacy now and then, as long as it is a valid alternative to cones or cups. To combat the summer heat, for example, you can freeze some seasonal fruit and then give it to the dog as if it were a small refreshing ice pop to nibble. Even with fruit, it is advisable not to overdo it because, containing fructose, if consumed in excess can still cause the dog diabetes, obesity and dental problems. Do not forget that seeds, pits and stems must be removed - many are toxic - and also the peel, like that of watermelon, must be removed. Anyway, the trusted veterinarian can properly advise which fruit is most suitable, as each dog is different from the other, each has unique physical and behavioral characteristics and an even more unique experience. To facilitate the consumption of the "ice pop," you can chop it, you can soften it outside the freezer before serving or even blend it making it into a sort of granita to leave in the bowl. It is advisable to monitor the dog while eating a special food like an ice cube, and if there is even the slightest doubt that it could be dangerous for its health, consulting the veterinarian before offering it to him is also a good practice in this case. So that our dog can enjoy his "ice cream" in complete peace, a small restorative delicacy that dogs sometimes like to taste.

I cani, in sostanza, possono mangiarlo?
