Imelda

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

Stray cat Imelda is from Kilksama village, where she played the cat-and-mouse game with people who tried to catch her for several years. They eventually managed to catch her kittens, but the mother cat remained elusive. Until one beautiful day, she was finally caught unexpectedly along with another kitten and taken to the shelter. When she arrived, Imelda was very wild - she hissed, ran away, and didn't allow herself to be touched. Now she has calmed down a lot. Yes, she can still sometimes hiss a little, but she doesn't scratch and the biggest progress - she even allows herself to be picked up! She doesn't seek contact, but quietly accepts the presence of people. She gets along well with other cats and prefers a calm environment. She is reserved towards visitors and prefers to hide - therefore, Imelda is looking for a quiet home where quick progress is not expected, but rather where there is willingness to offer time, understanding, and patience. If you have a big heart, a quiet home, and the desire to help a lonely cat safely open up, then Imelda is waiting just for you. You can let us know of your interest by writing to the shelter's email address.

ET·Show original

Tekkis huvi? Täida ankeet ja paku kodu!

About Imelda

What life with Imelda looks like

Imelda is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ in Estonia.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇪Adopting from Estonia

Frequently asked

Adopting Imelda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Imelda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Imelda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Imelda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Imelda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Imelda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ early rather than rehoming privately; they know Imelda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ET). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
