Truffe

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

In August I wrote about Truffle – a cat found from a drain, with exhaustion and confusion in his eyes. At that time we didn't know if he had days or weeks left. Today we know - Truffle has been given life, but this life is a bit special. After long studies and observation, it has become clear what Truffe's condition is: epilepsy. This is a diagnosis that explains his initial confusion and neurological symptoms. But it is also a diagnosis that you can live with, if you have someone who takes care of you. Truffe is today a completely different cat than in August. He is no longer the frightened and aggressive figure from the drain. He is a cat who has learned to trust, but whose health requires precision like a clock: Truffe must receive medication at specific times to keep the seizures under control. His condition must be monitored to notice even the slightest change in behavior. I have looked at him for a long time and thought about the future. I asked myself, is there someone out there who could share this burden with me? But I have to be honest with myself - finding a real home for Truffle is almost impossible due to his diagnosis. Epilepsy is not just a disease on paper, it is a lifestyle. It is a responsibility that most people cannot handle. I don't want him to be that difficult cat that no one wants. I want him to be simply Truffe. That's why I have made a heartfelt decision: Truffe will not go anywhere anymore. He will become a permanent resident of my shelter. I will keep him under my care, because here he is in a safe environment where he is known and loved. His health is too fragile to be tested by new environments and strangers. This stress could be fatal for him, and I am not ready to take that risk. Truffe is immeasurably precious to me. The trust that has been born between us during our hard times is a bond I cannot break. I gave up looking for a foster home, because I realized that this miracle happened already when he arrived at my door from the drain. Truffe has found his harbor and I have found a soulmate that I will never leave.

Täna me teame – Truffele on antud elu, kuid see elu on veidi isemoodi. Truffe on mulle kirjeldamatult kallis. Tekkis huvi? Täida ankeet ja paku kodu!

About Truffe

What life with Truffe looks like

Truffe is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ in Estonia.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇪Adopting from Estonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Truffe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Truffe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Truffe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Truffe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Truffe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Truffe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ early rather than rehoming privately; they know Truffe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ET). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
