Imperia

Imperia ID No.: 1040939 Breed: Mastin-female dog Age: *approx. 01/2021 Sex: female Shoulder height: approx. 68 cm Neutered/spayed: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Imperia – a stunning Mastin-female dog eager to blossom in her new home Imperia (*approx. 01/2021, approx. 68 cm) is a beautiful Mastin-female dog who was found without a microchip and brought by Spanish animal catchers to the TripleA animal shelter in Marbella (Spain). How she was even caught remains a mystery—when she arrived, she was incredibly fearful. Typically, dogs at the animal shelter need only a short time to feel safer and begin to thaw—some just a few days, others a few weeks—but Imperia needed months to gain confidence and relax even slightly around people. The conditions at the animal shelter are extremely difficult for her, as there are unfortunately no safe retreat spaces for sensitive dogs. However, she feels very comfortable in the company of her canine friends—primarily easygoing Podenco-male dogs—and enjoys playing, running, and cuddling with them. In fact, she strongly looks to other dogs for guidance, and Imperia clearly prefers male dogs over female dogs. She quickly befriends various small to medium-sized male dogs, provided they gently invite her to play and allow her to set the pace of their interaction. Imperia also likes larger male dogs but gets startled if they approach her with too much energy. She feels especially at ease with patient, gentle, and kind people who refrain from touching her initially and give her the necessary space and time. At the same time, Imperia needs confident humans who won’t inadvertently reinforce her insecurity. With clear, understandable commands—especially during walks—she relaxes noticeably and follows both her human and her pack. We are looking for a quiet, preferably rural home for Imperia, where she’ll be given all the time she needs to adjust. Ideally, this would be a household with prior experience caring for fearful and shy dogs. Consistent, simple daily routines would be essential for her, allowing her to gradually build self-confidence through familiar structure.

About Imperia

What life with Imperia looks like

Imperia is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Imperia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Imperia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Imperia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Imperia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Imperia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Imperia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Imperia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
