Indi &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female

Over 7,000 dogs have passed through my screen in the last few years, each bringing their own story, character, and the incredibly unique appearance of mixed breeds. Many times I wrote about beautiful creatures, but Indi is on the model scale—when one could place her—certainly among the first ten. Indi is a Mastin mix lady with almost 70cm shoulder height, but she exudes elegance and tenderness. Her dark round eyes look understandingly at a world that often showed itself so hostile to her, but Indi has forgiven and perhaps even forgotten. The wonderful, one-and-a-half-year-old female dog was found by a couple on the land, tangled and emaciated, with today's gleaming eyes now dull and weakened. Indi still lives with her rescuers, but they unfortunately cannot keep her. We hope that our princess will find a home that can give her the life she so deserves. Our soft powerhouse is a quiet and balanced girl who loves cuddling (like almost all of our gentle giants). Indi does play sometimes, but in Mastin manner, for short periods, with a lot of power and the widest grin one can imagine on a dog. Afterward, she gladly returns to her main subjects of chilling, sunbathing, mattress tests, and cookie tastings. Although Indi is a very fine and empathetic being, showing obedience and friendliness to all, she remains a herdschutzhund—thus, not an ideal first-time dog. We also strongly advise against adopting her solely for her impressive appearance. A herdschutzhund means responsibility and expertise, understanding of the quirks of these majestic four-legged creatures, and above all, a lot of humor. If, however, as an "old hand" in the husbandry of other large breeds, you are consciously starting the adventure of a herdschutzhund, have experienced dog training classes nearby, bring love and humor, and can live with the fact that in the future all your furniture will be covered in white dog hair and you will never again eat unobserved, then Indi is definitely the right choice for you. And honestly, you won't find a prettier companion for long walks— and if you do, this one will be much less likely to make you meet new friends and fans with every step.

DE·Show original

About Indi &#8211

What life with Indi &#8211 looks like

Indi &#8211 is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Indi &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Indi &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Indi &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Indi &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Indi &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Indi &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Indi &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
