Adopt Indiana

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Rehoming Gender: neutered male dog (02/25) Breed: German Shepherd-Malinois-Labrador Mix. Name: Indi (Indiana) Born: 09/20/2023 Age: 2.5 years Origin: Germany Age at adoption: 9 weeks Health: vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, no known illnesses Diet: Dry food (Leitwolf : Horse), no poultry as it can cause intolerances House-trained: Yes Can be left alone: trained for 4 hours With a heavy heart, we are looking for a new home for our dog. This decision is not made lightly. However, we see that we are not up to the task of handling a Malinois mix. Since Indi, mostly out of insecurity, shows aggressive behavior, we have worked a lot with him. Despite our efforts to guide him properly, we are often too slow in reacting, either too late or incorrectly. With us, he often feels the need to take control to protect us, leading to tense situations. Recently, there was an incident where he grabbed a child. I was with him in the field when the child suddenly approached on a bicycle. Indi barked intensely, which caused the child to scream and run away. In that moment, Indi grabbed the child and caught the pants. There were no serious injuries, but it was a final wake-up call for us. To sort ourselves out and secure the dog, we have placed him in a dog boarding facility. He will stay there until a suitable home is found. Otherwise, there is only positive feedback about him. As long as there are no external stimuli, he is a dream of a dog! At home, he calms down wonderfully (as long as no one is ringing the doorbell or there are visitors). He lives with our 5-year-old son, whom he loves dearly. His friends are also welcome and can cuddle and play with him. Indi is very cuddly and clingy (he can also be sent away if it's not his turn)

Fremdvermittlung Geschlecht: Rüde kastriert (02/25)Rasse: Deutscher Schäferhund-Malinois-Labrador-Mix.

About Indiana

What life with Indiana looks like

Indiana is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier in Bingen am Rhein.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Indiana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Indiana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Indiana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Indiana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Indiana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Indiana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier early rather than rehoming privately; they know Indiana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
