Indie

Podenco Β· Female

Indie is a friendly, quietly confident Podenco with a wonderfully gentle nature. Calm, well-balanced and remarkably quiet, she has charmed everyone who has met her. She seeks out affection and quickly responds to kindness. Indie was first spotted wandering beside a road near the local town. She travelled through the countryside and was seen several times in a neighbouring village. Her adventurous spirit inspired her name: Indie, after Indiana Jones. Her ability to survive for so long also showed just how clever and resourceful she is.. Volunteers moved her to a safer rural area, established a feeding routine and monitored her with cameras. Because Indie was frightened and very savvy, several patient rescue attempts were needed. After three months on the run, she was safely caught on the fourth attempt at the end of May. The moment she received her first gentle stroke inside the cage, her fear melted away and her affectionate nature shone through. She then settled into shelter life with remarkable ease. Indie could live happily as the only dog in the home or alongside a compatible canine companion. She adapted to shelter life with effortless ease and would suit a family looking for a calm, affectionate large dog. Her gentle confidence and easy-going personality make her a truly special companion. Indie gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes. She is sweet and playful, and adjusts her strength to suit the size of her playmate. She has made friends with both female and male dogs and settles easily into new groups. Indie has not yet been tested with cats, so her compatibility with them is currently unknown. However, she has not shown any hunting instinct while in the shelter’s care. Indie walks well on the lead and is calm and confident when out and about. She is also very quiet and is not known to bark. At around 30 kg, she is a large dog with an exceptionally gentle presence. Indie will be neutered, is vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. She is passported and available for adoption now. About Indie

What life with Indie looks like

Indie is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈAdopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Indie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Indie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Indie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Indie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Indie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Indie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Indie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
