Paloma

Podenco · Female

Paloma was found in notoriously nasty Pererra on Fuerteventura, where thankfully she was taken out and to a rescue contact of ours. In early August she will be making her way to mainland Spain where she will be prepped for adoption. Paloma is a striking girl, and has a wonderful personality to go alongside her stunning looks. She is really happy and content in the presence of humans, even those she doesn’t know very well. She comes running when you call her name, In the home she is calm and relaxed and outside she prances like a horse and loves to play with all the dogs - big and small. She gets on with them all. She loves to be active and is looking for a family that can keep this up - she’d also really benefit from another playful dog in the home. Outside of that, she has very few requirements as she is such a great allrounder and could thrive in many environments. Paloma is neutered, vaccinated and has tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. She is passported and available for adoption now. About Paloma

What life with Paloma looks like

Paloma is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paloma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paloma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paloma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paloma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paloma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paloma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paloma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
