Indie

Poodle · Female · Young · 3 years

17-06-26 Indie is a gentle and worried little lady who has come to us from a breeder. At the moment, she is not comfortable approaching people in her kennel and will often shy away from her handlers. She is still learning that people can be kind and trustworthy, and she finds handling difficult right now, sometimes showing that she is touch-sensitive. Indie will need a patient and understanding home with adopters who are experienced with, or knowledgeable about, ex-breeding dogs and the challenges they can face when adjusting to life in a home environment. She can live with older teens, aged 16+ who are sensible and will allow her the patience she needs. She will need time to settle at her own pace and should never be rushed. She will need at least one kind and confident resident dog in her new home. A friendly canine companion will help her learn about home life, provide reassurance, and support her as she continues to build her confidence. As Indie has never lived in a home before, she will need help learning all the basics, including house training and walking on a lead. To begin with, gentle garden explorations may be the best way for her to experience the world while she gains confidence. Indie is a timid girl who will need plenty of love, patience, and understanding from her adopters as she learns about trust, companionship, and all the comforts of family life. In the right home, given the time and support she needs, we believe she has every chance of blossoming into a happy and devoted companion. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Indie

What life with Indie looks like

Indie is a young adult poodle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Indie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Indie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Indie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Indie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Indie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Indie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Indie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
