Indigo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

SEARCH FALD (long-term foster family) neutered, identified, vaccinated test FIV positive/ FELV negative test calicivirus positive cat does not get along with all cats dog relationships unknown okay children if calm no access to the outside (because of calicivirus), except if secure outside in foster family at Champs-Géraux (22) Indigo was reported by a neighbor while he was on a parking lot drooling blood. We learned that he had been there for years, fed by a neighbor and his condition had deteriorated over the months. After veterinary examination, he tested positive for FIV and calicivirus. A complete extraction of his teeth and a long treatment allowed him to be relieved from his calicivirus. He no longer has lesions or treatment and has been in great shape for more than 6 months. Regarding FIV, he has no current symptoms, so it does not affect his daily life. He also has a treatment for his heart to be given every day, which he easily takes in his food. An annual echocardiogram allows monitoring of his condition and treatment. Indigo is a very affectionate and playful cat who seeks contact and caresses. He does not necessarily get along with all cats but will need human presence. Because calicivirus can be transmitted between cats, Indigo must stay indoors, or only have access to a secure outside. The risk of contagion is however very low with vaccinated and healthy cats, if the carrier cat does not have mouth lesions, like Indigo. Regarding FIV, transmission occurs through fluids (semen and blood), so there is no risk of contamination with other cats in the house, unless a violent fight causes injuries. Indigo has a particular profile but is a cat who has gone through difficult experiences and has remained very affectionate throughout the way. He deserves to find a good home for a new beginning. Given his particular profile, we are looking for a long-term foster family for him. Indigo will remain with the association and all his veterinary costs will be covered but he will not be adopted and will remain permanently in his foster family.

About Indigo

What life with Indigo looks like

Indigo is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Assistance Animaux en Détresse in assistance animaux en detresse.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Indigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Indigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Assistance Animaux en Détresse handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Indigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Indigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Assistance Animaux en Détresse will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Indigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Indigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Assistance Animaux en Détresse early rather than rehoming privately; they know Indigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
