Emil

Mixed Breed · Male

Emil, approx. 10 years old, neutered: “Until now, I’ve always been on my own... I’ve had little to do with people—I was used to managing my life entirely by myself. Maybe that’s why, at first glance, I seem rather aloof! Now I’ve ended up in the animal shelter and am actually looking for a home. I don’t need anyone who’ll entertain me around the clock. But a cozy little spot and a full bowl of food—well, I could get used to that. You should be patient and not expect too much right away... we’ll figure out the rest together—at my own pace. After all, I’m just a cat with character. So if you’re not looking for a cuddlebug who’s ready on demand, but rather a real guy with a big heart, then we could make a pretty good team. I’ve been my own boss for a long time. Maybe it’s finally time to finally put down roots somewhere.” +43 (0) 664/4140725 Note: Of course, he needs outdoor access—he’s always lived outside.

About Emil

What life with Emil looks like

Emil is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Braunau am Inn in Braunau am Inn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Braunau am Inn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Braunau am Inn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Braunau am Inn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
