Iris

Female · Adult · 4 years

Iris is a lively and friendly 2-year-old girl. She loves long walks and working with her nose, such as nosework or tracking. Iris doesn't enjoy sitting still for too long, but once she's been stimulated, she's happy to snuggle up on the couch with you. Iris is a loyal companion who wants to do everything with her human, a true best friend. She has difficulty trusting new people, which she shows by barking and backing away from the situation. However, if you give her time and the chance to sniff you properly, it quickly improves. Iris is quite selective about which dogs she likes. If she's unsure about a dog, she may bark and show that she wants distance from the dog, especially if the dog she meets is reactive. But if given the chance, under calm conditions, she gets along with many dogs once she's comfortable. She has also attended dog daycare before and it seems to have worked well. Handling such as nail clipping and grooming is fine with her as long as it's done at a calm and comfortable pace. Vet visits are not her favorite, but Iris stands still and accepts the situation. Iris is looking for an active home where she can expend her energy. She is a very smart girl who enjoys working, so a future home is preferably also interested in an active lifestyle. Someone who is interested in going on adventures, doing nosework, or even trying some obedience training? Iris is looking for someone who understands her uncertainty with new people and other dogs. A calm and clear person who can gently and clearly show that you are always there for her, and when she needs help in a difficult situation. Since she has difficulty with new people, we believe it's best for her not to live with younger children, but with older children who understand her situation. SV·Show original

About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a adult dog waiting at Hundstallet in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundstallet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundstallet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundstallet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
