Iris

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 4 years

Iris is an exceptionally intelligent, approximately 4-year-old female dog of a small Amstaff type. Despite initial difficulties adjusting to her new shelter environment, the girl decided to trust humans and quickly showed her best side. Iris loves taking walks, during which she’s accompanied by her loyal companion—a tug toy that helps her calm down when encountering other dogs. Plus, this Amstaff-like pup adores playing, getting scratches behind the ears, and rolling around happily in the grass. Doesn’t that sound perfect? Iris regularly joins us on “Adopt a Warsaw Resident” outings around the city and each time makes us incredibly proud. She’s comfortable riding both buses (though she doesn’t enjoy crowds or excessive stimuli during the ride) and cars. She eagerly greets every person she meets, offers her belly for petting, and actively initiates contact herself. She’s curious about new places. While she can ignore other dogs, it remains a challenge for her, and she doesn’t like being bothered by them. Despite her immense gentleness and love for people, we’re looking for an experienced home for Iris—preferably one without children or cats, and ideally also without other dogs. The future guardian must be prepared to work with Iris, especially when it comes to socializing her with other dogs and teaching her household rules. They should also be aware that despite her small size (for an Amstaff), Iris is incredibly strong and can pull or tug quite powerfully during walks or playtime. We also invite you to check out our volunteer group’s social media channels, where you’ll find updates on the lives of our shelter residents, adoption information, greetings from foster homes, educational posts, and much more! PL·Show original

Iris to niezwykle inteligentna, około 4-letnia sunia w typie niewielkiego amstaffa. About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a medium-sized adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs socialization work with other dogs, requires strong handler due to pulling strength, high energy needs management

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
