Adopt Iris

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 4 years

Iris is an extremely intelligent, approximately 3-year-old female dog in the style of a small American Staffordshire Terrier. Despite initial problems accepting the new, shelter reality, the girl decided to trust a person and showed herself in the best light. Iris loves walks, which she takes with her loyal companion - a Jack Russell Terrier, who helps her calm down excess emotions when passing other dogs. In addition, this American Staffordshire Terrier dog loves play, scratching behind the ear and proper rolling in the grass. Doesn't it sound perfect? ❤️ Despite her great gentleness and love for humans, for Iris we are looking for an experienced home, without children or cats, preferably also without other dogs, but in this matter we don't say a definitive no. The future caregiver must be prepared to work with Iris, especially in the area of socialization with other dogs and learning household life, and must be aware that despite her small (for an American Staffordshire Terrier) size, the female dog is extremely strong and can pull hard, plus she has youthful energy.

Iris to niezwykle inteligentna, około 3-letnia sunia w typie niewielkiego amstaffa. About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a medium-sized adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs socialization work with other dogs, requires strong handler due to pulling strength, high energy needs management

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
