Adopt Irma

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Irma was found alone by the river during a walk with one of our animal welfare workers. We don't know where she came from or what she has experienced so far. When she arrived at the animal shelter, she was initially very shy and fearful. The new environment and all the unfamiliar impressions made her understandably very afraid. But Irma has made great progress in the past weeks. Over time, she has become more and more relaxed and now enjoys attention and affection. She enjoys being stroked and shows herself to be a gentle and loving female dog. When it comes to strangers, Irma needs some time to build trust. However, once she has won their heart, she shows her cuddly and friendly side. Currently, Irma lives together with the little Ivy in a pen. The two get along very well, and Irma meets her young roommate calmly and patiently. Overall, she shows herself to be very social and unobtrusive when dealing with other dogs. Irma is already fully grown, so her size will not change anymore. We assume that Irma has not had many experiences in her previous life. Things that are self-evident for many dogs—walks on a leash, everyday noises, life in a house, or living with people—are probably still new to her. Therefore, we are looking for a loving home with patient people who can give her the time to settle in and learn step by step what it means to be a dog and a family dog.

About Irma

What life with Irma looks like

Irma is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Irma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Irma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Irma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Irma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Irma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Irma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Irma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
