Irma

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Irma is a cat who spent most of her life in the wild 🌿. For several years, she lived near a factory in Aleksandrów Łódzki, where she had a shelter and was regularly fed by a caretaker 🐈. Unfortunately, this winter, Irma's health worried her caretaker enough to ask us for help 🙏🏻. The cat was brought to Mruczarna with an ear infection and dental problems that required dental treatment 🦷. The first months under our care were not easy for Irma. She was withdrawn and cautious, but from the beginning, we felt that she had the potential to trust a human 🤍. In May, we performed a blood test 🩸. It turned out that Irma suffered from advanced hyperthyroidism and would require daily medication 💊. Although the diagnosis was a very unpleasant surprise, it brought something we did not expect. Due to the need for regular medication, we moved Irma to a smaller room where it was easier to provide her with daily care. And then something extraordinary happened ✨. Day by day, the cat began to open up more to the presence of humans. She allowed herself to be touched more willingly, and the distance she had built up over the years began to disappear 🥹. Irma does not like taking medication, but her health requires it to be given twice a day. However, when we come to her without medication - just to sit down, pet her and give her some attention - she reacts very well. Today, when you enter her room, she approaches the person, puts her face and bottom up for petting, and becomes more and more courageous and open every day 😸. We are convinced that Irma has a huge potential to become a wonderful, devoted companion. The presence of other cats does not bother Irma. She tolerates them, although she does not like too close contact with them. She is not a cat that seeks support from members of her own species, so she will also find her place as a single. We do not know Irma's exact age 📆. When she came under our care, we estimated her to be around 4-5 years old. However, considering the advanced changes related to hyperthyroidism, we assume that the cat may have been born around 2017-2018, which means that she is now around 8-9 years old. Irma is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. We are looking for a responsible home for her, indoors, with windows and a balcony properly secured, which will be ready to administer daily medication and be aware that a cat like her requires regular blood tests to monitor her health. The cat is in our Mruczarna in Słowik near Łódź. If you would like to learn more about Irma and meet her in person, we invite you to fill out the pre-adoption questionnaire: pl/ankieta-przedadopcyjna/ If you cannot give Irma a home, but still want to help her, you can do it in two ways. 💙 🐾 Adopt her virtually by sending a message to: wirtualki.pl and declaring support in the amount of at least 30 PLN per month. 🐾 Support the ongoing collection to cover the costs of her treatment and maintenance: pl/irma-fpk. We will be very grateful for any form of help. Thanks to you, Irma got a chance at a new life. Now it remains to find a person who will show her that the best moments are yet to come. ❤️

About Irma

What life with Irma looks like

Irma is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at PrzytulKota in Poland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adopters usually cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Irma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Irma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PrzytulKota handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Irma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Irma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PrzytulKota will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Irma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Irma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PrzytulKota early rather than rehoming privately; they know Irma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
