Adopt Iskra

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Iskra – when hope takes flight → Breed: mixed breed → Gender: female → Born: October 2021 → Size / Weight: 45 cm / 15 kg → Neutered: yes → Vaccinated: yes → Identification: Chip → Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs → Incompatible with: unknown → Sponsorships possible: yes Iskra is a female dog that we have known and loved for several years. She lives in the pension of Zikreta and is the deputy head of the pension on four legs – one could almost say that without Iskra, nothing would happen there. Whether during coffee gatherings, sitting in the meadow, or daily tasks: wherever Zikreta is, there is also Iskra, and together the two have the pension well in hand. Not long ago, Iskra had a serious accident, resulting in a broken spine. She survived, but since then, she has been paralyzed from the middle of her body down. This means that Iskra relies on a wheelchair. But anyone who meets Iskra quickly realizes – for her, this is no handicap but her new normal. She zips through her life with impressive dexterity: up and down hills, over obstacles – nothing seems to hold her back. Iskra is compatible with other dogs and also with the cat in the pension. She is people-oriented, can be easily touched and cleaned, and she spreads her friendly nature with an infectious zest for life. Of course, taking in a partially paralyzed dog comes with responsibility.

Wer Iskra aufnimmt,

About Iskra

What life with Iskra looks like

Iskra is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iskra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iskra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iskra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iskra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iskra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iskra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iskra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
