Isla & Doreen’s Road to Recovery

The Rescue Hotel Health Centre is the busy little blue cabin on the site of Cardiff Dogs Home . A place where members of the public can access basic veterinary procedures, while our team provides essential care for the dogs staying with us. We’ve had a particularly busy few weeks, so we wanted to share with you some of the residents who have recently visited the Health Centre and share a little more about the care they’ve received. A couple of weeks ago, Isla was diagnosed with bilateral luxating patellas , meaning the kneecaps in both of her hind legs frequently slip out of place. After discussions with our vet, it was decided that the best course of action was to carry out surgery to repair both knees here at the Rescue Hotel Health Centre. Isla’s first surgery was successfully carried out last week. She has been an incredibly brave girl and we’re keeping a close eye on her as she begins her recovery ( with her best friend Nev on hand to offer plenty of moral support too! Doreen is another one of our residents who needs surgery to repair luxating patellas. When she first arrived at the Hotel, she was covered in fleas and had sore, uncomfortable skin. Following treatment and plenty of lovely soothing baths, Doreen is feeling much more comfortable and is now ready to continue with her treatment plan. Her first surgery successfully took place this week and she is recovering next door to her new friend Isla. Recovery can be a long process, particularly after surgery, but Isla and Doreen are not facing it alone. The Rescue Hotel and Cardiff Dogs Home are dedicated to caring for them every step of the way, ensuring they have the care they need to recover and get stronger before they’re ready for their second surgeries.
