Issa

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Issa was born around 2016 and stands 42 cm at the shoulder. She is a friendly, people-oriented female dog with a loving nature. Unfortunately, because of her breed, Issa counts as a so-called "list dog" and therefore may not be rehomed to Germany. Her only chance at a home lies, for example, in Austria or Switzerland. Our association is not permitted to rehome there, but we are very happy to help if someone wants to give Issa a chance and a legal export is possible. At the shelter she is currently kept alone in a kennel – entirely unjustly, because Issa shows herself to be sociable and good-natured. In tests outside the kennel, both with cats and with an unfamiliar pack of dogs, she behaved exemplarily. She wants nothing more than to finally be part of a real life again – with grass under her paws and with the closeness and security of her people. Visit update, February 2026: We took a GEN test from Issa. She is still friendly and sweet. She allowed herself to be lifted up and patiently tolerated the procedure of a cotton swab being run along her oral mucosa. The material is the basis for a gene test. We have a (small) hope that Issa is genotypically not a list mix. Keep your fingers crossed for Issa! Issa has a few small scars on her face that bear witness to a difficult past. But her eyes speak of kindness, hope, and remarkable inner strength. Even if she may not match the typical ideal of beauty, she is beautiful on the inside – a dog with soul and character. Issa so deserves to finally be seen – despite her "wrong genes" and her dark coat color. She is a special female dog who simply wants to live, love, and arrive somewhere. Issa is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and will be rehomed after a positive preliminary check, against a protection fee and with a protection contract – unfortunately, however, not to Germany. We gratefully welcome information about a suitable solution! General note about our charges: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each dog as accurately as possible. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions – may show itself differently. This is entirely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee for every behavior in a new setting. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Issa

What life with Issa looks like

Issa is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Issa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Issa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Issa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Issa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Issa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Issa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Issa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
