Ivar

Male · Adult · 7 years

Ivar is a dog who has not adapted to life in an animal shelter. A dog who is absolutely overwhelmed by the shelter's reality. A dog who needs peace, a sense of security, HOME. However, this home has been waiting for him for over 2 years. Ivar has his good and bad moments and moods, but unfortunately in the shelter's reality, the bad ones prevail. Then Ivarek won't even cross the threshold of the kennel. Although he is happy to see familiar faces, he prefers to stay in the only place he knows is safe - in his own sanctuary. Ivar also has a cheerful side - when we manage to convince him to go for a walk, he shows a completely different face. A joyful dog who loves contact with people and toys. He enjoys spending time with trusted volunteers, is always eager for pets and gives kisses. When we start walking, he walks nicely on a leash - he doesn't pull, sniffs a lot and calmly passes most of the dogs he meets. He feels best far away from the animal shelter, when he can take a break from his overwhelming daily routine. Ivar also took part in Hard Dog Race where with the support of his volunteers he did surprisingly well and without any problems managed all the obstacles. There is also a lot of fear in Ivarek - he is afraid of loud noises, is suspicious of strangers and can "take off" from someone who he doesn't like. That is why we are looking for someone patient and responsible for him. Someone who will be ready to spend time with him to gain his trust. Someone who wants to work with the dog and give him support in difficult situations. A responsible and experienced person who knows what it's like to live with a fearful dog and is aware that Ivar will need time to get used to new places, people and situations. We recommend Ivarek as a single dog without any canine or feline siblings.

Kogoś kto będzie chciał pracować z psem i dać mu wsparcie w trudnych sytuacjach.

About Ivar

What life with Ivar looks like

Ivar is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Severe shelter stress and fearfulness requiring patient rehabilitation

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ivar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
