Jack

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Jack was rescued in June 2025, together with Olga, from the horrific killing facility in Balad (Romania) and placed in a private animal shelter. There, he was microchipped, neutered, and vaccinated. Jack didn't feel comfortable among the many dogs and the noise at the shelter and couldn't find peace. After almost a year, on May 23, 2026, Jack was allowed to leave the shelter and, after a very long journey, arrived at a foster home of ITV Grenzenlos near Hanover. We are therefore looking for very empathetic and patient people who can give Jack the time he needs to approach humans on his own terms. He requires a calm household, a quiet retreat space (e.g., a crate), and plenty of sleep. It would certainly also be helpful if there were an already established, confident dog—or even several dogs—already living in the home. At the foster home, Jack lives together with three to four other dogs, and there are no problems whatsoever. Since Jack is not yet able to go for walks, the living quarters must be appropriately suited as well. A small, clearly defined, and securely fenced garden would be ideal. However, a mandatory requirement for adopting Jack is a good understanding of canine body language—and ideally, practical experience handling anxious dogs. Jack is a very sweet and adorable little fellow, and it will be well worth the effort to help him. Once he has built trust with his primary caregiver, his development will progress rapidly. And Jack will undoubtedly become a loving dog who brings great joy to his family. Still, there’s a long road ahead for him, and prospective adopters should be fully aware of that. Jack was born on March 21, 2024, and measures 30 cm in height. Before his departure, he underwent a rapid blood test for diseases, which came back negative. Please call if you’d like to help little Jack: .

DE·Show original

About Jack

What life with Jack looks like

Jack is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ITV Grenzenlos e.V. in Essel.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ITV Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ITV Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ITV Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
