Jack Poppy Schnauzers

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Poppy on the left, Jack on the right Meet Jack, aged 14, and Poppy, aged 9. They are gorgeous Miniature Schnauzers who came into rescue when their owner was no longer able to keep them. Jack and Poppy are in an Oldies Club foster home in Luton, Bedfordshire, waiting for a forever home together. Overview: Jack and Poppy are a friendly little duo who enjoy meeting other dogs at the park. They'd like a home where they'll have human company most of the day but can be left when you need to go out for a couple of hours. They'd like a carpeted home with a private secure garden where they can enjoy playing and relaxing. A home with older visiting children would be fine. We don't know how they are with cats. They need a soft diet due to a lack of teeth after recent dentals. Jack is deaf. Jack Poppy Enjoy company but can be left: Jack and Poppy settled at their foster home within a week. They love to have human company, so wouldn't suit a home with people who go out to work, but they are fine when you need to leave them for up to 3 hours. Good with dogs: They are both good with dogs. Poppy has lived with Jack all her life. On walks, Poppy likes to go up to other dogs and is very friendly. Jack is also friendly with them. Unknown with cats: There are no cats at the foster home so we don't know how Jack and Poppy would be with cats. Older children only: Young children would be too much for this little pair, especially with Jack being a senior chap. Their foster carer feels they would be OK with older children (aged 12+) who are quiet and know to treat dogs with respect. As Jack and Poppy haven't lived with children previously though, children who visit rather than reside in the home would be best. Poppy enjoying a snooze Enjoy walks: They both enjoy a walk. They haven't been let off lead while in foster care but are walked on extending leads. Poppy likes to rush off to investigate things in the park but will look back if you call her name. Jack also likes to explore and is good on the lead. He can't be let off as he's deaf. They are being walked for 30 to 45 minutes each day. Poppy could manage more but she is walked with Jack and he doesn't want to go for any longer than that. Good in the car: They are both good in the car but do get excited when they know they are nearing the park. Jack needs lifting into the car but Poppy can jump in. Jack's favourite pastimes: Eating and sleeping! He also enjoys chasing a ball for a short time. He enjoys a walk in the park and meeting other dogs, big or small. Poppy's favourite pastimes: Eating and, when the weather permits, lying out in the garden. She enjoys walks and meeting other dogs, big or small. Jack's least favourite things: The vacuum cleaner, and loud cars when out on his walk. Poppy's least favourite thing: The vacuum cleaner. Their ideal home: With people who are around for the majority of each day and able to take them for fun walks in the park. They need a carpeted home as they both dislike walking on wooden floors and tend to slip. They love to be out enjoying time in the garden, so a home with a private enclosed garden is essential. They can both manage stairs and they like to sleep upstairs in their own beds, in the bedroom. Health notes: They are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and have been flea treated and wormed. They have both had a dental while in foster care. Poppy has only 4 teeth left and Jack has no teeth left. Due to their lack of teeth, both Jack and Poppy need to be fed soft food only. Poppy has no current health issues. Since coming into rescue, Jack has had a heart scan as he has a mid-range heart murmur. He doesn't need heart medication at the moment though and the vet recommended a re-scan in 6 months or so. Jack is having a supplement for his joints. He is fairly deaf and his eyesight isn't perfect. Their foster carer says: Jack is friendly (especially once he gets to know you), gentle, and not possessive with toys or food. Poppy is cheeky, friendly, playful and greedy – she will finish any food Jack leaves! If Jack and Poppy are to be fed dried food it must be thoroughly soaked first, or they enjoy cooked rice mixed with tinned or sachet food. They are best with water added to their meals as neither of them drinks much. If you would like to offer Jack and Poppy a permanent home together, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the . You can then contact the Oldies Club rehoming team as follows: Email: for an application form. Or , leaving a message including your email address, and we’ll email an application form. They can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to their foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect them. If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.

About Jack Poppy Schnauzers

What life with Jack Poppy Schnauzers looks like

Jack Poppy Schnauzers is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack Poppy Schnauzers, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack Poppy Schnauzers?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack Poppy Schnauzers on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack Poppy Schnauzers if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Jack Poppy Schnauzers already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack Poppy Schnauzers isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack Poppy Schnauzers and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
