Jara

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Jara is looking for a loving home. Jara is a charming little Shepherd mix, approximately 3 years old, small to medium-sized, and weighing around 15 kg—she’s full of heart and even more intelligence. She’s affectionate and cuddly, thoroughly enjoying the closeness of her trusted human companion—and once she’s bonded with someone, she becomes a loyal and devoted companion. New experiences and unfamiliar situations can still make Jara feel a bit uncertain at times. Therefore, she needs people with dog-experience who can provide her with the necessary security and calmness so that she can relax and fully blossom in her new home. She already walks nicely on the leash and handles car rides without any problems. When meeting other dogs, she relies entirely on her instincts and intuition—so her humans will need to show sensitivity and tact in these situations. Jara is an active, curious dog who loves activities and challenges. She’s looking for people who enjoy growing and working together with her—whether through training, nose work, or shared adventures. If you’re experienced with dogs, bring patience and love, and would like to have an energetic four-legged friend by your side, Jara would be thrilled to meet you! Jara is currently staying at her foster home in Switzerland. Ms. Carmen Gieriet is happy to provide further information about Jara (.

About Jara

What life with Jara looks like

Jara is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SOS Strassenhunde in Sos Strassenhunde.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Strassenhunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Strassenhunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Strassenhunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
