Adopt JayJay

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

During our project tour in late November 2024, of course, a visit to our partners in Stintino was on the agenda, as it always is. And, as usual, there were both familiar faces and some new arrivals waiting for us there. Among these new arrivals was this handsome young male dog whose story deeply moved us. JayJay, as he is called, once had a family. They had adopted him as a puppy and he lived with them in Sassari. But the good fortune didn't last long. The couple split up, and the woman moved out of their shared home. JayJay stayed with the man. But since he works full-time, he not only left the poor dog alone but also locked him out: JayJay lived on the street, not knowing why this had happened. And he certainly didn't cope well with it. When someone finally took pity on him, he was already in a very desolate state: he could barely stand, had almost no fur left, was dehydrated and starved. So he ended up with our partners in Stintino, where he now lives in the rescue. Thankfully, JayJay has since recovered well, his fur has grown back. It's amazing that he has maintained his friendly nature. He is so loving, delighted by cuddles and treats. And he gets along well with the other dogs in the rescue. We hope very much that the rescue is only a short stop for JayJay's life. We want to bring him to Germany as soon as possible so that he can find a permanent home with loving people. He would certainly be happy if he were allowed to participate in all family activities. Maybe he can accompany you on runs or hikes soon? JayJay traveled to his German foster home. It's especially nice when our adult dogs also get a chance to leave the shelter life behind and move into a family environment. So JayJay had the great fortune to travel to a loving foster family in Germany. Much is still new to him, like going for walks with people, having a cozy spot on the couch, and being confronted with environmental stimuli. But he masters all of this already wonderfully. JayJay is house-trained, open-minded, and friendly. He approaches both familiar and unfamiliar people. With the children in the household, he is respectful and likes to be stroked by them. The handsome male dog with expressive eyes is a laid-back representative and makes a calm impression. JayJay enjoys really sleeping undisturbed and claiming a quiet spot for himself completely. With the female dog in the household, he gets along well, and is also very friendly during all dog encounters. Now we are looking for the people who want to give JayJay a permanent and secure home. If JayJay is given a little time, he will become a wonderful, pleasant companion.

About JayJay

What life with JayJay looks like

JayJay is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting JayJay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about JayJay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw JayJay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt JayJay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is JayJay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if JayJay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know JayJay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
