Jelle

Podenco · Male

Jelle was found in a pererra on Fuerteventura and was thankfully rescued. He spent some time at a foster home on the island before making the trip to mainland Spain where he is now in a hybrid kennel/foster set up. Jelle is a gentle, sensitive boy with a sweet nature and a quiet charm that grows on you more every day. While he can be a little reserved when faced with new situations, once he feels safe his affectionate and curious personality begins to shine through. Since moving to mainland Spain, Jelle has made fantastic progress. The change in environment was initially overwhelming and he needed some time to decompress and adjust (which we expect to see again when he moves to his forever home), but little by little he has become more relaxed, more comfortable around people, and increasingly interested in the world around him. We are starting to see the real Jelle emerge. He enjoys the company of other dogs and would likely benefit from living with a calm, confident canine companion who could help him continue building confidence. Jelle is very influenced by his surroundings and thrives in environments that are peaceful, predictable and low stress. Like many dogs who have spent time in a shelter environment, Jelle found kennel life difficult. However, as his world has become calmer and more secure, he has shown just how resilient he is. He continues to grow in confidence and we believe he has enormous potential in the right home. Physically, Jelle is naturally slim and currently weighs around 18kg. As he settles further and continues to relax, we expect him to fill out and develop both physically and emotionally. Jelle is looking for a patient and understanding family who will allow him to settle at his own pace and celebrate the small victories along the way. In return, they will gain an incredibly special dog whose trust and affection are deeply rewarding. Jelle is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now.. If you would prefer to make a one off donation, please click below

About Jelle

What life with Jelle looks like

Jelle is a small adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jelle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jelle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jelle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jelle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jelle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jelle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jelle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
