Jena

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 11 years

Jena is a 12-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who lived in an apartment with children and cats. She came to us after her owner changed jobs and unfortunately no longer had enough time to care for her. Upon her arrival, we also noticed that Jena had been neglected for several years: she had not seen a veterinarian for a long time and was thin, with skin problems, very long claws, and a dirty and damaged coat. We put in place a treatment for her skin problems. She also has arthritis and will probably need, in time, a treatment to relieve her on a daily basis. A quality diet will also be important to help her regain weight and gradually regain better physical condition. Jena is an absolutely adorable girl! She is affectionate, playful and very nice. Very close to humans, she loves everyone and makes parties for both children and adults! Jena can get along with some calm dogs, provided that the introductions are made correctly. At her age, she especially appreciates tranquility and will need a peaceful environment where she can rest peacefully. We will prioritize a placement in a house or apartment on the ground floor, in order to avoid stairs and offer her an environment adapted to her age and arthritis. The shelter is not really the ideal place for a 12-year-old grandma who now deserves to settle in a comfortable, quiet home and enjoy her beautiful years to the fullest. Jena, being a category dog, requires the completion of the mandatory administrative procedures for her adoption. Future adopters must therefore be able to meet the conditions necessary for her adoption. Jena does not ask for much: a little comfort, good care, a suitable diet, a lot of love and above all a family that will allow her to grow old peacefully.

FR·Show original

About Jena

What life with Jena looks like

Jena is a senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at SPA Colmar in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Colmar handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Colmar will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Colmar early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
