Jersey

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 2 years

Jersey is a young Malinois-mix dog who has likely had very bad experiences with people in her short life. She is afraid. And this fear is clearly visible: anyone who tries to touch her risks being bitten. Currently, Jersey is staying with a foster family in Spain. There, she shows herself to be completely peaceful towards other animals. She lives together with several dogs, horses and sheep and easily integrates into the animal community. The human being is missing in her experience a place that would be connected with security, trust or closeness. Her caregiver works patiently with her - in small steps, with respect for her and her fear. Jersey does not need a new place right now, she needs time. And people who understand her. This dog is currently not approachable, not just "shy" or "uncertain", but deeply suspicious, and she goes forward when she feels threatened. It is likely that she experienced violence or major loss of control in the past. And like many dogs who cannot hide, her only way is forward. What Jersey will eventually need is not a "dog lover", but an absolutely experienced person with solid knowledge about dogs with trauma-related disorders. Someone who knows what reliable leadership means, can read body language, has no expectations, shows patience, lives calmly and respects boundaries. A spacious, low-stimulation home with a secure garden, an experienced first dog - all of this would be helpful in the future. But Jersey is not ready for this yet. Malinois are particularly sensitive, hardworking, intelligent dogs - with a high willingness to form relationships, but also with a low threshold for stress when they are overwhelmed, under-stimulated or misunderstood. Jersey is a special case of this special breed. She will follow her own path: when, where and with whom, time will show. We firmly believe that Jersey can become an outstanding companion in the right hands - when she is ready. Until then, she can simply exist, observe and take small steps towards a better future in her foster home. If you would like to keep an eye on Jersey, we would be very happy. Her profile is regularly updated - as soon as she is ready to enter the active adoption process.

About Jersey

What life with Jersey looks like

Jersey is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jersey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jersey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jersey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jersey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jersey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jersey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jersey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
