Jessy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Jessy has had many years of hardship behind her. Years without love, without veterinary care, and without adequate nutrition. When we were asked for help with the poor mouse, we did not hesitate and, once again, all the puppies had to make room to create a free spot for Jessy. When we first saw the delicate female dog, we were overcome with sadness. Walking was very difficult for her and caused her great pain. Despite this, she wagged her tail when she saw us and sniffed the garden curiously. Quickly, we brought her inside due to the cold temperatures, and she settled into her cozy bed without complaint. Within a short time, we could hear a soft snore and it did not bother her if someone entered the room. Since Jessy clearly needed medical care, we visited our vet just two days after her arrival. We knew that she was not in good condition, but when we received the examination results, we were overcome with emotion. Her left hip had dislocated at some point, and since it was never medically treated, she could barely move her leg. A strong, very painful arthrosis had developed in almost all of her joints, and many pathological changes were visible in her spine. We had already noticed that mammary tumors were present on her teats, and a larger lump on her flank. Unfortunately, it turned out that the lump was a malignant tumor. We immediately knew what this meant, and the hope of being able to help this poor soul, who had endured so much, began to fade. We are infinitely sad that her time here will be very short. But during this short time, we will make her life as beautiful as possible. Well cared for, without pain, and especially loved. Poor old Jessy, how unjust life can be…

DE·Show original

About Jessy

What life with Jessy looks like

Jessy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. in Schwaan / OT Letschow.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jessy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jessy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jessy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jessy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jessy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jessy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jessy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
