Jiji

Mixed Breed · Male

Illness in the family | Compatibility with other cats/children | With other cats: Yes. With children: Probably relaxed, calm, and cozy. Due to a cancer diagnosis within the family, we unfortunately have to find a new home for our cats! Jiji is an outdoor cat, but he prefers spending most of his time comfortably indoors with his people. He’s a calm, relaxed tomcat with a very friendly and affectionate nature. He particularly enjoys company and loves people who spend time with him. He’ll happily follow his favorite person around all day long. He’s usually not afraid of strangers, but he’ll also withdraw if things become too overwhelming. Jiji is more of a laid-back type and unfortunately has a bit of a soft spot for food, which is why he’s currently slightly overweight. Jiji is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, and regularly dewormed. He has no known health issues.

About Jiji

What life with Jiji looks like

Jiji is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Hersfelder Tierschutzverein e.V. in Bad Hersfeld.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jiji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jiji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hersfelder Tierschutzverein e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jiji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jiji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hersfelder Tierschutzverein e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jiji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jiji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hersfelder Tierschutzverein e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jiji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
