Adopt Jim

Pointer · Male · Young · 2 years

Jim is looking for a home with a loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in at his pace and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He is looking for an adult only home, with adopters who will read when he is feeling uncomfortable and give him time and space to himself when needed. Jim is a friendly boy, but doesn’t like to share, so is looking to be the only pet in the home, he would however benefit from polite and calm walking buddies. He has some training under his belt, he does the proudest “sit” and “paw” you have ever seen, he can engage in training in short, sweet sessions with the help of a tasty treat. He would like a home with a private garden to explore and potter off lead at his leisure, as he will be going home on a lead disclaimer for his prey drive. He can settle alone so could be left for up to 4 hours, this should be built up gradually once he has had time to settle into his new home. Jim will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet him within 48hrs of being shortlisted. Super smart and sweet boy Jim is a 2 and a half year old Pointer cross Spaniel who loves to explore with his nose to the floor! He loves his toys, he will chase and bound around after a ball or a squeaky toy if thrown for him, he doesn’t always bring them back. He is a cuddly boy and likes a fuss, he will lean in for more and will wander off when he needs some space. Food is the best, if there are tasty treats on offer he is right there with a proud sit and paw, ready to receive his reward. This pawsome chap is looking for his new home.

About Jim

What life with Jim looks like

Jim is a young adult pointer dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
