Adopt Jody (Hündin)

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Breed: mixed breed, medium-sized compatibility with others: very good with fellow animals The current location: animal shelter Pirot (Serbia) Reason for surrender: Jody was found with her 8 siblings in a box outside the animal shelter. We unfortunately do not know what happened to their mother. Perhaps she was hit by a vehicle or poisoned, unfortunately a common occurrence in Serbia. The siblings grew up together in the animal shelter. All of them except Jody and her brother found a nice home. Jody and her brother are very playful and would like to run all day 🙂 They get along well with fellow animals, whether small or large, as they grew up in a mixed pack. Jody has not been on a leash or trained yet. In any case, we recommend attending a good dog training class. She can be rehomed as a second dog. Since she has only known life in the animal shelter so far, she should be given ample time to orient herself in her new home. Potential adopters should know that young dogs not only bring a lot of joy but also a lot of work, as they need to be consistently and lovingly trained and made familiar with all aspects of daily life. This takes time and can sometimes be a few nerve-wracking moments, but later it is rewarded with a confident, well-socialized companion. We recommend attending a dog training class in any case.

About Jody (Hündin)

What life with Jody (Hündin) looks like

Jody (Hündin) is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. in Leichlingen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jody (Hündin), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jody (Hündin)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jody (Hündin) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jody (Hündin) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jody (Hündin) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jody (Hündin) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jody (Hündin) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
